Well, it’s been an interesting week. I committed to doing a drawing or painting a day (read more here), and while I have done that, it went a little differently than I expected. I started by doing Lisa Congdon’s Daily Drawing Challenge on Creativebug. By day 5, though, it was just stressing me out. I love Lisa’s style and her drawing prompts, but it’s not what I want to be doing right now. It just wasn’t working for me. So I switched it up and got out my watercolors and pens and started doing some abstracts. I’m much happier.
Crystal Moody, who has had great experiences doing a “year of creative habits” each year, posted on Facebook a little bit about how she always feels like January just doesn’t flow when she starts a new year-long project, and she usually has to make some changes to get it working smoothly. At least I’m not alone!
I made it the whole week without skipping any days, which is awesome! (I'm keeping track with Elise Blaha Cripes's calendar.) I’ll keep going and working on some watercolor and ink pieces and see how it evolves. I’m sure at some point I’ll want to do something different. I think flexibility will be the key for me to stick with this. In the meantime, I’ll brainstorm some ideas now, while I’m happy to keep doing what I’m doing. Then, when I’m ready to change it up I don’t miss any days trying to figure out what’s next!
